The agency responsible for its implementation is the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL).It is now scheduled to be launched in second week of September 2011 during Ganesh Chaturthi.

The Bangalore Metro Rail finally took shape with the Karnataka Government clearing the project in March, 2005 and the Union Government giving its approval in April, 2006.

The Bangalore Metro weaves through the bustling commercial and residential areas of the city. The first phase of Bangalore Metro, consisting of two corridors of double line electrified, will cover a total of 42.30 km.

The East-West corridor will be 18.10 km. long, starting from Baiyappanahalli and terminating at Mysore Road terminal, going via Swami Vivekananda Road, Indiranagar, Halasuru, Trinity, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Cricket Stadium, Vidhana Soudha, Central College, Majestic, City Railway Station, Magadi Road, Hosahalli, Vijayanagar and Deepanjali Nagar.

The 24.20 km. North-South corridor will begin at Nagadandra and terminate at Puttenahalli going via Mahalakshmi, Rajajinagar, Kuvempu Road, Malleswaram, Swastik, Majestic, Chikpete, City Market, K.R. Road, Lalbagh, South End Circle,Jayanagar and Puttenahalli.

Out of the 42.30 km., 8.822 km. will be underground near City Railway Station, Vidhana Soudha, Majestic and City Market and most of the rest will be elevated.

The Bangalore Metro has been designed for a capacity of 40,000 PHPDT. The number of passengers expected to travel on the metro everyday is estimated at 10.20 lakhs in 2011 and 16.10 lakhs in 2021.

Fares are likely to be pitched about 1.5 times that of equivalent bus routes, although there is an intention to amend bus services to a feeder role to the much higher capacity of the metro.

The construction of the palace was started in 1862 and completed in 1944. In 1884, it was bought by the Maharaja of Mysore, Chamaraja Wodeyar.Now owned by the current scion of the Mysore royal family, Srikanta Datta Narsimharaja Wadiyar, the palace has recently undergone a renovation.

In June 2005 Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar decided to open the palace to the public to meet its annual upkeep costs. The special attraction is a gallery of nearly a thousand historical photos, including those of viceroys, maharajas and other famous personalities inside and exquisite carvings and paintings.

The sprawling grounds surrounding the palace (palace grounds) are used for holding public events including music concerts. The palace grounds has convention halls which can be hired by any private citizens for marriages and functions.

The Bangalore Palace has now launched an audio guide instead of the traditional tour guides.Palace authorities say the script was prepared after a through research and was recorded by a professional team. The tour has been launched in seven languages including English, Kannada, Hindi, French, Spanish, German, Italian and the tour lasts about an hour.

Indian tourists are charged Rs 175 and Foreign tourists Rs 350.
