The Indian Institute of Science was established in 1909 giving shape to the extraordinary vision of J N Tata. It has been in the forefront of Science and Technology development in the country and has contributed significantly in India’s progress during these years. This year as we move into 100th year of our contribution to science and technology, we are celebrating centenary year of our popularly called Tata Institute.

Among the various mega events being organized this year in our campus, we are organizing Science and Technology Run on 7th December, 2008. The participants for this run would include the IISc fraternity (students, faculty, alumni, staff, and their families), students from science and engineering colleges from Bangalore and the local people who care about science and technology.

The Science and Technology Run is the fore-runner for the main IISc Centenary Conference starting on Dec 13th. The idea of the run is to celebrate IISc’s centenary with the participation of the people of Bangalore. IISc has been the pillar of research in India and it is the pride of Bangalore city. The exposure to IISc will enhance the awareness of the impact Science and Technology has had in the city and will increase the scientific temper of our youth community. IISc has been an integral part of Bangalore’s culture and its progress during the past 100 years and this run is symbolic to strengthen the support for science and technology and ties to the Institute from the people of Bangalore.

Dr. G. Padmanabhan, Former-Director of IISc will be flagging off this event. Dr. P Balaram and Dr. N Balakrishnan will be awarding the prizes to the winners.

This event is an initiative of IISc Alumni Association, Bangalore.

Route: 3.5KM (inside IISc campus).
Age categories: <15, 15–35, 35–55, 55+.
Prizes: First three in each category will be awarded (separate prizes for men and women).
